District and Federal Contracting
One of the unique opportunities afforded to Washingtonians is the plethora of contracting opportunities, due to the presence of not only local government, but also Federal government. This workgroup, which will work under the direction of proposed co-chairs Pedro Alphonso of Dynamic Concepts, Inc. and Garry Curtis of Hager Sharp Inc., aims to help DC contractors maximize their contract work.
In 2011, this workgroup will work with the Small Business Administration and the Federal Office of Small and Disadvantaged Business Utilization (OSDBU) and the local Office of Contracts and Procurement (OCP) to identify contracting opportunities for Chamber members via an online tool. Through these strategic partnerships, it will be the job of this workgroup to establish new relationships and build on existing ones with various agencies in the city. This workgroup will also host a ½ day program reviewing opportunities for local contracts as well as the process to secure contractual opportunities.
*This work group will meet on May 16th at 10:30 a.m. at the DC Chamber of Commerce 506 9th Street NW, Washington, DC 20004.*

Access to Capital
Here at the DC Chamber, we are committed to 'delivering the Capital'; not just from a tourist perspective but also from an entrepreneurial one. As such, we have started a workgroup to do just that for entrepreneurs in the city. This workgroup aims to boost economic development by promoting entrepreneurial development that will enhance the District's business climate and drive job growth.
By promoting and supporting the Neighborhood Economic Development Corporation (NEDCO) loan program and Certified Capital Companies (CAPCO) venture capital program, we hope to spur economic growth as well as attract and retain companies in the District of Columbia. This group will also provide advisory services to assist businesses in their efforts to grow and expand. This especially includes startups! The workgroup will help to position them to successfully compete in today's economic environment.

Next Generation Leaders
DC is ripe with young professionals who flock to the area in search of business and economic opportunity. Last year, the DC Chamber of Commerce started its Next Generation Leaders program (NGL) just for this group. Antwayne Ford of Enlightened, Inc. will chair this workgroup, which has been tasked with convening workshops and programming designed with the young professional in mind.
Some of the topics this group will address range from the responsibilities entailed in sitting on a Board to entertaining for business. This workgroup will also work with the NGL members to help them jumpstart their careers; teach them how to influence public policy and the power of making connections.
Participation in this workgroup is open to any interested, registered NGL member.
