The DC Chamber of Commerce always strives to improve the business climate and economic well-being of the city. Its Fix List addresses the tough issues we all face and drives change to make DC the ideal place to do business. The Fix List does not encompass all the issues businesses contend with in the District, but it is an important step in a series of actions that the District needs to take for sustainable economic development. The Chamber is proud to lead this effort and continues to represent its membership on all issues that impact business in the District. Below is a list of the items we plan to “fix” to make doing business in the District a worthwhile investment.
The Chamber Fix
1. Lower the franchise tax
2. Require economic impact statements, not just fiscal impact of laws and regulations
3. Implement and overhaul of the regulatory review process
4. Expand third-party review for permitting and licensing
5. Improve the ability for information to be provided by District agencies and DC Council through the Internet
6. Extend recertification timeframes for basic business licenses and CBE certification and streamline the process for recertification
7. Lessen the regulatory burden for financial, technology, and other growing industries to relocate into the District
8. Ensure development of large tract, District-owned sites are expedited through the approval process so that District residents and businesses are provided new opportunities for jobs and expansion
9. Provide further federal and local tax incentives to businesses that hire DC residents and hard to employ DC residents
10. Remove enrollments caps on universities and provide for research growth opportunities
