The DC Chamber of Commerce approved the following new goals to pursue in the upcoming year:
Goal:
Create a city that supports business
Objectives:
Introducing legislation that will stimulate long-term positive growth
Vigorously opposing legislation or offering ammendments for legislation that impededs business growth or creates any additional burden of unenforceable compliance on District businesses
Supporting the Mayor’s economic development initiatives which aim to stimulate business innovation, entrepreneurship, and job creation
Proposing new ways to streamline the license and regulatory process
Goal:
Create an effective workforce development system that supports a robust business environment
Objectives:
Working with institutions of higher education to ensure the availability of educated and qualified pools of potential employees for key employment growth sectors in the District of Columbia
Partnering with other workforce development organizations to strengthen the First Source program and ensure more applicants are qualified to help District contractors meet the '51% job hire' requirement
Enhancing workforce initiatives focused on strengthening the DC Workforce Investment Council (WIC) to ensure accountability and success in coordinating workforce functions in the District of Columbia
Goal:
Boost economic development by promoting entrepreneurial development that will enhance the District's business climate and drive job growth
Objectives:
Promoting and supporting the Neighborhood Economic Development Corporation (NEDCO) loan program and certified Capital Companies (CAPCO) venture capital program to spur economic growth and attract and retain companies in the District of Columbia
Providing advisory services to assist businesses in their efforts to grow and expand, including startups by positioning them to successfully compete in today's economic environment
Convening a Business Expo held in conjunction with the Small Business Awards breakfast Implementing the online chamber Net contracting service for private sector businesses.
Goal:
Increase the market share of District and Federal contracting opportunities for Chamber members
Objectives:
Working with the District Office of Contracts and Procurememnt and the OSDBU (Office of Small and Disadvantaged Business Utilization) in selecting Federal/Local agencies to help identify those that have contracting opportunities
Ensuring our members are ready to compete for Federal and Local contracts
Encouraging and promoting the awareness and opportunities of doing business with Federal, State and Local government agencies
